Tourism Able to Promotes the Gambia
Situation Analysis & Expected Improvement
A. Situation Analysis :
The tourism industry in Gambia is the world’s second biggest in providing employment opportunities and one of the main sources in foreign exchange currency. In 2016, the tourism industry takes up 21.9% in the gross domestic production whereas the tourism employment takes 18.8% in the total employment of the country. The tourists spending is equivalent to 46.5% of the total exports of the year. Currently, there are more than 40 hotels available nationwide, with 3,000 rooms and 7,000 beds. In addition, about 200,000 foreign tourists will visit each year. The visitors mainly come from European countries such as the UK, Sweden and Germany.

B. Expected Improvement :
In the past, visitors were mainly from Europe and the United States, this project will be focusing to attract tourists from Asia. It is predicted that there will be a growth in European and American tourists by 50% whereas more than 3million West African tourists (1% of the 300 million people in West Africa).
• First year, to increase the number of visitors by 50%.
• Second year, to increase the number of visitors by 50%.
• Third year, to break through 500 million visitors and immigrant population.
